with Ben Hall
Friday, March 12
50 W. Lorain St.
9pm, free admission
Keith Rowe is an English free-improvisation tabletop guitarist and painter. As one of the founders of both the greatly influential AMM in the mid-1960s and M.I.M.E.O., Rowe has created a body of work that represents one of the most formidable challenges to contemporary music in the past half-century. Trained as a visual artist, he has painted works that have been featured on the covers of many of his own albums. After years of obscurity, Rowe has recently emerged to some critical and popular notoriety, and since the late 1990s has kept up a busy recording and touring schedule. He is seen as a godfather of electroacoustic improvisation, with many of his recordings released by Erstwhile Records.
Opening this concert will be a performance from Detroit-based percussionist and MMG-favorite Ben Hall. A collaborator of Bill Dixon, John Olson, Nate Wooley, Joe Morris, and many others, Ben curates the Brokenresearch imprint.
